FAQ for Scouts
Can I take my mobile phone?Well you could, but the reception is poor, there is no way to charge the batteries and anyway there will be plenty of telephones available if you really, really want to ring somebody. You’ll probably be too busy enjoying yourself and having a good time to worry about ringing anyone at all (except perhaps to ring your Mum and Dad to tell them what a great time you’re having).
You can take as much as you like but remember all your meals and activities are paid for. So you only need a small amount for souvenirs and for when you go off-site.
A complete gear list will be included in the documentation you receive and will also be put up on this website.
The average daytime temperature in January is about 30 degrees Celcius. There is also a possibility of temperatures of over 40oC. So be prepared for it to be hot. Bring a good hat (or two) and plenty of sunscreen. Nighttime temperatures average around 17 degrees with quite high humidity. Only a lightweight sleeping bag will be required. We can expect it to rain on one or two days.
If you want more detailed weather information then check the current Weather Forecast or the Camden Airport Climate Averages. Weather radar is also available for the Sydney area.
It is better not to take anything really, really expensive like your Dad’s best camera or an expensive walkman as these could get lost or, unfortunately, stolen. Also you shouldn’t take very expensive clothing, such as your best leather jacket or your best set of jeans as you will have no need for them during the Jamboree.
The Tony Balthazar Jamboree fund is available for those who may find it difficult to raise the money to go to the Jamboree. Application forms are available from the fund (through Branch Headquarters) or through your local Scout group.
We will need to know what medication you are on and how you have to take it, either by tablet or liquid or inhaler. There is a great gadget around called a Webster pack which your chemist can make up for you. This puts your daily medication into little sealed packets which are weather proof, won’t break and will help you to remember to take all your medicines.
There are all sorts of activities. Go to the AJ2010 official website to see all the things they have got planned. There's no limit to the fun activities available!
